Speak Out Against Contaminated Skin Care Products: Opt for Natural Skin Care for Babies & Children

Your baby's well being is most important. You want to feel confident that the bath and skin care products you are using for your baby as well as your whole family are safe and gentle. With all the reports and studies lately it is hard to know which skin care products are safe to use.

A recent independent study commissioned by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found that several top-selling bath and skin products are contaminated by the cancer-causing chemicals formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane. Name brand baby shampoo's, body wash, bubble bath, and baby lotions were found to be contaminated with these chemicals.

So what is a parent to do?

  • We could start by educating ourselves concerning the ingredients that are listed on all skin care product labels. Whether you choose to use store brand or natural skin care products, you should familiarize yourself with the ingredients. This parents buying guide is a helpful resource to choosing skin care and bath products that are safe for our babies and families.

  • Choose products that have fewer ingredients, with no synthetic dyes or fragrance.

  • Use less bath and personal care products. There are many baby bath products that can be used on the hair as well as the skin.

  • Be careful what you believe! Just because the label states it is gentle, natural, and pure isn't necessarily true. Opt for natural skin care products that are certified natural and organic.
  • You can make a difference. Let congress know that you want to feel secure knowing when buying skin care products that they are truly safe to use. You can help by filling out the form on the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics site to add your signature to the petition to Protect Kids from Carcinogens.
