Planning a Twins Baby Shower - Choosing Baby Shower Favors

Choosing baby shower favors for a twins theme is no different then any other party. If you want to stay within the "twins" theme you can be a little creative by putting together favors that represent two of items that go well together or just two of the same item.

If you want to make homemade baby shower favors for your party consider purchasing favor boxes or organza bags and filling them with some of these items:

  • Travel-size body wash and lotion

  • Nail polish and lip balm

  • Two movie theater tickets

  • Trial-size coffee pack and a wrapped cookie

There are tons of two peas in a pod favors available online if you are planning on using this theme.

Another idea is to choose personalized baby shower favors. A cute label or tag with the twins theme can be personalized to add to your baby shower favors.

Personalized candy bar wrappers are also another choice that is inexpensive and cute. It's a great way to give your guests a sweet treat!

No matter what favors you choose for your twins baby shower keep in mind that you want to give your guests a gift that they will use and appreciate.

Planning a Twins Baby Shower - Invitations & Decorations

Decorating for a twins baby shower can be a lot of fun and is pretty simple. No matter what theme you choose it is basically two of everything. Invitations should coordinate as closely as possible and clearly state it is a twins baby shower.

A couple of classic baby shower themes that incorporate the twins theme into the design are Two Peas in a Pod and Noah's Ark. Both of these themes are neutral and can be used for either baby boys or girls.

If you know whether the babies are boys and/or girls you can include pink and blue colors as part of your theme. Decorate with pink and/or blue streamers, balloons, and confetti. String up a clothes line and hang 2 onesies, booties, shirts, bibs, etc. using blue and/or pink depending on whether the babies are boys or girls.

You can buy matching baby shower invitations to coordinate with your theme or you can make your own. There are many online sites that offer free printable baby shower invitations. This site has a nice selection of twins baby shower invitations. All you need to do to print your own invitations is buy some quality card stock and find a design that fits your theme.

Planning a Twins Baby Shower - Choosing a Baby Shower Theme

Planning a baby shower for twins is especially exciting! The expecting parents will not only need two of everything but could probably use a few extra helping hands after the babies are born.

There are a few practical and cute baby shower themes that are perfect for twins. Just about any theme can be used for a twins shower but the following themes are the most popular:

  • Two Peas in a Pod - this is a classic twins theme that is based on two adorable babies in a green pea pod. This is a neutral theme and works for baby boys or baby girls.

  • Noah's Ark - this adorable theme features two by two animals and is perfect for animal lovers too. Decorate with pairs of cute stuffed animals placed around the room.

Besides these two themes you can also have a shower that the guests bring covered dishes that can be frozen for later use. The expecting mommy will appreciate this more then anything after the babies are born.

These baby shower themes can also be used for triplets, quadruplets, etc., just increase the theme items.

Twins Baby Shower - Planning Tips & Ideas

Planning a twins baby shower is just as easy as planning any shower. Just think two of everything and stick with a common theme. A mommy that is expecting more then one baby especially needs a baby shower!

Taking care of one baby is hard enough. I personally can not imagine having to take care of two infants at the same time. I applaud women that have the stamina to care of two newborns and still be able to stay awake.

This is why the expecting mommy should have an extra special baby shower. Once the babies are born she will barely have time to breath. A twins baby shower should supply the expecting parents with two of everything they need and lots of diapers, besides other useful services.

Pampered Mommy Baby Shower Food Ideas

Since this is a pampered mommy baby shower the hostess should make sure that all of the expecting mommy's favorite foods are served. Make sure she gets to indulge in her most decadent favorites!

When planning the menu also take into consideration your guests taste in food. Check to make sure no one has any food restrictions. For the most part keep the menu light and tasty.

Here are a few food ideas that will work for most baby showers:

  • Appetizers - Spinach Dip with crusty chunks of bread, vegetable platter with ranch dip, hummus with pita chips, seafood dip with crusty bread, cheese plate with crackers.

    • This is a tasty recipe that is quick & easy:

    • Antipasto Skewers - Cut mozzarella cheese, salami, and ham into bite-size chunks. Put in a bowl and add kalamata olives (pitted), roasted red peppers (cut into squares), and cherry tomatoes. Toss with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Italian parsley, minced garlic, and salt & pepper to taste. Allow to marinate for 30 minutes. Thread 1 piece of each item onto wooden skewers and arrange on a platter. Serve with crusty Italian or French bread.

  • Entrees and / or Side Dishes - Chicken salad, quiche, pasta salad, tortilla roll-up sandwiches, finger sandwiches, mini pita sandwiches.

  • Dessert - You can have a full size cake for the baby shower or you could also make cupcakes. Cupcakes can be easily decorated to match the baby shower theme and used as a table centerpiece.

Here is a great tutorial on how to make a cupcake stand and you can customize it to match your baby shower decorations. Besides cake you can also serve fresh fruit or a fruit salad with some light whip cream on the side, cookies, or small pastries.

Keep the menu simple so that most of it can be prepared in advance and setup right before the baby shower begins. This way you have time to spend playing hostess rather then being stuck in the kitchen. If you can afford it, have the party catered or plan to have it at a restaurant.

Now that you have some ideas on planning a pampered mommy baby shower you can get to work. Just remember this baby shower is all about the expecting mommy!

Planning a Couple's Baby Shower - Choosing Baby Shower Favors

OK ladies, so you are planning a couple’s baby shower and are perplexed about what kind of baby shower favors to give your guests. Let’s face it, baby shower favors are designed with women in mind. They are cute and feminine!

So what do you give the guys that are attending a coed baby shower? There are not too many men that are into candles or bath confetti, and they won't go gaga over those adorable baby bottles filled with candy.

Well, let’s think about what guys enjoy -

  • Food - What guy doesn’t like to eat? You know the old saying: The way to a guy’s heart is through his stomach. Cookies or candy are always a sure bet. Wrap them in a piece of tulle tied with a ribbon or an organza bag. You could also use Chinese style take-out boxes or neutral color favor boxes. Bubble gum cigars are also another good choice.

  • Sports themed key chains or t-shirts.

  • Movie rental gift certificates or lottery tickets.

If you want to give the ladies at the party something feminine, there is no reason why you can’t buy separate baby shower favors for them.

Just remember when choosing the favors for a coed baby shower to keep them neutral for the men.

Planning a Couple's Baby Shower - Baby Shower Games

When planning a couple's baby shower one of your main concerns is making it "guy-friendly". Coed baby showers tend to be more laid back like a small get-together for family and friends, unlike women-only baby showers which seems to bring out the frilly, girly side of us females.

A big question when it comes to baby shower games is whether or not you should include them at a couple's baby shower. This is totally up to you, but if you do decide to include tehn try to choose games that the expecting daddy and the other men at the party will enjoy. Men tend to like physical activities, so avoid the games that you have to figure out what's in the dirty diaper or guessing the baby food.

My husband was very involved in my pregnancy and we had a coed baby shower. He loved opening the gifts just as much as I did. As we were opening them the guys starting assembling any gifts that needed to be put together. They had a blast playing with all the cute toys and gadgets. Technically this isn't a game but the guys were having fun and that's all that matters.

Here are a few ideas that will be entertaining for everyone:

  • Guess the Guest - Prior to the baby shower, have all the guests give the hostess one of their baby pictures. Arrange them on a piece of cardboard and have the guests try to figure out who's who. The guest with the most correct answers wins.

  • Diaper Changing Olympics - This baby shower game is just like a relay race. You will need two baby dolls, diapers, wipes, and powder. Divide the guests into two equal groups. Set up a table with the supplies and put a diaper on each doll. Each guests has to run to the table, take the diaper off the baby, wipe, powder, and put a new diaper on the baby. Then they run back and give the doll to the next guest in line. The next guest does the same thing. Not only is this game a ton of fun it gives the guys some much needed practice!

  • Pin the Diaper on the Baby - This is a very competitive game that the guys are sure to love. You will need a baby doll (make sure to choose a doll the diaper will fit on), a cloth diaper, safety pins, and a blindfold. The goal of the game is to be the fasted as well as neatest to diaper the baby with a blindfold on. Have someone keep time with a stopwatch. Have the expecting mommy judge which guest did the best job.

Guy-friendly prizes can include gift certificates, lottery tickets, bubblegum cigars, chocolate or candy, candles for the women and cigars for the men.

No matter what you decide to do, just try to keep it simple and neutral (not too girly). This way everyone at the baby shower will fill comfortable and have fun.

Tomorrow I will be covering choosing baby shower favors. So join me on Thursday for another installment for planning a couple's baby shower.

Planning a Couple's Baby Shower - Choosing Invitations

More and more couple's are planning coed baby showers. I personally think it is a great idea to include the expecting daddy. He has every right to be included, he did help create the expected bundle of joy!

In the past men were excluded from baby showers because they can be very feminine. With a few tweaks you can turn your baby shower into a guy friendly party.

When choosing invitations for your couple's baby shower pick an invitation that is "man friendly". The idea here is to attempt to get other men to join the baby shower. If some of the expecting daddy's friends are there he will not feel out of place in a room full of women.

Here a few baby shower invitation ideas that will work for a coed shower:

  • If both parents like sports, you might want to find an invitation that is decorated with their favorite sport or sports team.

  • Western theme.

  • Transportation theme - trains, planes, & automobiles.

  • Couple's design

All of these great invitations can be found at Partyinvitations.com.

Don't forget, you should mail your invitations 2 - 3 weeks before the baby shower.

The next installment on planning a couple's baby shower will cover baby shower games. To play or not to play? Join us on Wednesday.
