The big story in the news the last couple of weeks has been how babies are absorbing phthalates from skincare products. A recent study by Dr. Sheela Sathyanarayana, Baby Care Products: Possible Sources of Infant Phthalate Exposure, revealed that babies exposed to certain skincare products had elevated levels of phthalates in their urine.
On the flip side, Dr. Sathyanarayana's report was critized by the CFIF (Center for Individual Freedom) for being a conflict of interest. According to CFIF, the report is motivated more by politics than actual science. It "conveniently" omits well-known scientific risk assessments on phthalates exposure, and excludes information regarding Dr. Sathyanarayana's political activism and apparent bias.
As concerned parents, what should we believe? It's hard in today's world because we already have so many concerns when it comes to our childrens health. The best practice is to keep it simple. Use natural baby skin care products and learn how to choose natural skin care products by reading labels and knowing what ingredients are harmful.
If you want to see how safe the skincare products you have around the house are, the Cosmetic Database has a partial listing of baby products ranked by how many chemicals are in them. Very informative!

Kindersacks - Wearable Blankets for Babies, Toddlers, & Young Children
If your child is anything like my Alexander, then he/she doesn't like to use a blanket. Baby sleep sacks are the perfect answer to your problem. These beautiful wearable blankets are great for babies, toddlers, and young children that do not like to be covered with a blanket and tend to kick it off. But that is not the only reason to use a Kindersack.

Kindersacks, when used properly, can lessen the risk of SIDS in infants. The exact cause of SIDS is not known, but it is widely believed that SIDS is caused by infants sleeping on their backs or with blankets (that can bunch up) which can cause poor air movement around the mouth. This causes the baby to rebreath carbon dioxide which was just exhaled, which in turn can cause a decreased ability for the infant to awake.
Kindersacks are made with an all natural cotton lining and shell making them breathable, soft, and comfortable against your childs skin. A comfortable baby sleeps better and in turn you sleep better.
Kindersacks originated in Europe and have been keeping children warm and comfortable since 1965. They are referred to as a baby sleeping bag because they help keep warmth in.

Kindersacks are available in quilted and unquilted styles, sizes infants through children 3-6 years old. The quilted style is perfect for colder climates. The unquilted style can be used in most climates depending on the warmth of the child's room and they are also great for babies that tend to sweat a lot.
These wearable blankets are so much safer and convenient to use then a receiving blanket or comforter. They are available in several designs as well as a few styles that are made with organic cotton.

Once you use a Kindersack wearable blanket on your baby or child, you will never want to use a regular blanket again.

Choosing a Baby Shower Theme
Planning baby shower themes is my favorite part of planning a shower. There are so many different themes to choose from and a huge variety of available decorations.
If the parents know whether the baby is a boy or girl makes it really simple to select a theme. Even it if they don't know the baby's gender, there are plenty of themes to choose from besides the old standard of blue or pink.
Nursery colors make a great theme for a baby shower. Guests can bring color coordianted gifts, invitations and decorations can be choosen based on the nursery colors, and even the cake can be designed to match. Another great idea is a seasons theme. A beach baby shower for summer is a fun theme idea. You can decorate with pails, shovels, seashells, and neutral beach colors. Guests can come dressed in shorts and sandals.
One of my favorites is a frog prince or frog princess theme. You can decorate with little tiara's or crowns, wands, and cute frogs. A frog prince or frog princess diaper cake makes a great table centerpiece, as well as a gift.
The ideas can be endless for baby shower themes. All it takes is a little imagination!

Bath Time Fun for Baby
Bath time with Alexander can be a challenge. He is not an easy child to please, and it takes a lot to impress him. I have tried many different bath toys and games but have had little success. His favorite bath toys are the foam alphabet that sticks to the wall and bath paints.

I just recently found the cutest bath mitt sets. The fun characters make playing in the bath a creative learning experience. My favorite is the frog prince bath mitt. He is so cute with his little yellow crown and his mischievous expression. We really enjoy making up stories and games with the bath mitt characters. There is also a matching hooded bath towel for each character.
It's easy to make bath time fun with interesting baby bath accessories that not only entertain your baby and toddler but are also developmentally functional as well.
