Asian & Latin Baby Shower | Pink & Brown Baby Girl Shower

After 10 years of being a couple my brother-in-law and sister-in-law decided to take the next big step and have a baby. Our family is very excited and impatiently waiting the arrival of their baby girl in October.

Of course, I insisted on planning their baby shower for my first niece. My sister-in-law is Asian and our family is Latin. They wanted a couples baby shower and we wanted to make sure it wasn't too girlie so the guys wouldn't feel uncomfortable.

We decided to do an Asian themed baby shower with Latin food. Pink, brown, and sage were the baby shower theme colors.

I found an adorable "Good Luck" baby shower invitation online with lanterns and cherry blossoms. I changed the file to a jpeg and then changed the background color to sage. Then I bought some white card stock at Michael's Crafts and printed the invitations. They came out beautiful and were very unique.

My sister-in-law didn't want to go overboard with the Asian decorations. So we just used a few decorative candles to tie into the theme and these hanging swirl baby shower decorations. These beautiful cherry blossom candles and lucky elephants were the perfect addition.

I used mini Chinese take-out favor boxes in pink and green and personalized favor tags with a cherry blossom design for baby shower favors.

The baby shower favor boxes were filled with homemade fortune cookies dipped in white chocolate and sprinkles. I had my brother-in-law and sister-in-law come up with some cute fortunes for the cookies. They were adorable and delicious. So much better than store bought cookies.

My Preppy Pink Diaper Cake was used as the baby shower centerpiece. Although it did not have any Asian accents on it I tied in the shower theme colors of pink and brown.

For dessert I made a cupcake tower. I used the cupcake stand I made (see previous blog post for directions) for my daughter's baby shower and redecorated with pink, brown and sage.

The cupcakes were dressed in these adorable Cupcake Cuddlers. They really gave the cupcakes that extra special touch. I call them evening wear for cupcakes!

We played a couple of typical baby shower games - tummy measure game, to see how big my sister-in-laws belly was, and these cute scratch-off games.

It ended up being a fantastic party. It was the perfect mix for their Asian & Latin themed baby shower. Everybody had a great time including the guys!

Butterfly Baby Shower: Baby Girl Shower Theme

My beautiful granddaughter, Angelina Lucia, was born on Friday, 7/17/09.

My daughter wanted a butterfly themed baby shower. I took a few simple and cost effective items and came up with this beautiful butterfly baby shower.

Everything was pink and purple and accented with butterflies. It was very girlie! I made her this beautiful 6 tier diaper cake which was basically my 4 tier butterfly diaper cake with a couple of extra tiers. It was made with approximately 200 diapers and decorated with butterfly themed baby items.

I did two different baby shower favors with a butterfly theme.

These printable candy bar wrappers were really easy to personalize and I tied them in with the theme by adding butterfly and heart stickers. They are available in pink, blue, and multi color.

I also used these baby girl favor boxes and added a small hanging butterflies to tie into the theme. The butterflies were actually a fringe that I found at a fabric store. I just cut the butterflies off of the ribbon and attached them with a glue dot inside the box. These baby shower favor boxes are so cute and can be filled with candy, mints, or a small travel candle. They are also available in blue with a sailboat or green with a star decoration.

For dessert I made cupcakes with these adorable sugar crafted butterflies. I found these edible cupcake decorations at Shopbakersnook.

I displayed them on a cupcake stand that I made. I found a great tutorial on making your own cupcake stand. It was easy to make and I decorated it to match the butterfly theme.

As for decorations and tableware, I went to a local party supply store and found butterfly themed tableware and the adorable hanging decorations you see in the background.

It turned out to be a beautiful butterfly themed baby shower!

Baby Shower Diaper Cakes: A Unique New Baby Gift

If you are looking for a unique new baby gift for a baby shower, consider choosing a diaper cake. Diaper cakes make a practical gift that the new parents will love. Besides being a practical gift a diaper cake is a unique baby gift.

One thing all new parents need are diapers. What better way to fill this need then with a diaper cake?

Diaper cakes come in many sizes and can be made with just diapers and ribbon or decorated with useful baby accessories.

When choosing a diaper cake there are a few things you want to take into consideration:

  • What size diapers is the diaper cake made with? Most of the time they are made with size 1 and/or size 2 diapers. Size 1 diapers usually fit 8 to 15 lbs. and size 2 fit 12 - 18 lbs.

  • What kind of baby accessories is the diaper cake decorated with? Are they items the parents can actually use?

  • If you are going to a baby shower, the diaper cake can be made to match the theme. It also makes a beautiful baby shower centerpiece.

So if you want to bring a unique new baby gift to the next baby shower you attend, make it a diaper cake. You can't go wrong and it's guaranteed to be the new parents favorite gift!

Planning a Twins Baby Shower - Choosing Baby Shower Favors

Choosing baby shower favors for a twins theme is no different then any other party. If you want to stay within the "twins" theme you can be a little creative by putting together favors that represent two of items that go well together or just two of the same item.

If you want to make homemade baby shower favors for your party consider purchasing favor boxes or organza bags and filling them with some of these items:

  • Travel-size body wash and lotion

  • Nail polish and lip balm

  • Two movie theater tickets

  • Trial-size coffee pack and a wrapped cookie

There are tons of two peas in a pod favors available online if you are planning on using this theme.

Another idea is to choose personalized baby shower favors. A cute label or tag with the twins theme can be personalized to add to your baby shower favors.

Personalized candy bar wrappers are also another choice that is inexpensive and cute. It's a great way to give your guests a sweet treat!

No matter what favors you choose for your twins baby shower keep in mind that you want to give your guests a gift that they will use and appreciate.

Planning a Twins Baby Shower - Invitations & Decorations

Decorating for a twins baby shower can be a lot of fun and is pretty simple. No matter what theme you choose it is basically two of everything. Invitations should coordinate as closely as possible and clearly state it is a twins baby shower.

A couple of classic baby shower themes that incorporate the twins theme into the design are Two Peas in a Pod and Noah's Ark. Both of these themes are neutral and can be used for either baby boys or girls.

If you know whether the babies are boys and/or girls you can include pink and blue colors as part of your theme. Decorate with pink and/or blue streamers, balloons, and confetti. String up a clothes line and hang 2 onesies, booties, shirts, bibs, etc. using blue and/or pink depending on whether the babies are boys or girls.

You can buy matching baby shower invitations to coordinate with your theme or you can make your own. There are many online sites that offer free printable baby shower invitations. This site has a nice selection of twins baby shower invitations. All you need to do to print your own invitations is buy some quality card stock and find a design that fits your theme.

Planning a Twins Baby Shower - Choosing a Baby Shower Theme

Planning a baby shower for twins is especially exciting! The expecting parents will not only need two of everything but could probably use a few extra helping hands after the babies are born.

There are a few practical and cute baby shower themes that are perfect for twins. Just about any theme can be used for a twins shower but the following themes are the most popular:

  • Two Peas in a Pod - this is a classic twins theme that is based on two adorable babies in a green pea pod. This is a neutral theme and works for baby boys or baby girls.

  • Noah's Ark - this adorable theme features two by two animals and is perfect for animal lovers too. Decorate with pairs of cute stuffed animals placed around the room.

Besides these two themes you can also have a shower that the guests bring covered dishes that can be frozen for later use. The expecting mommy will appreciate this more then anything after the babies are born.

These baby shower themes can also be used for triplets, quadruplets, etc., just increase the theme items.
