Planning a Pamper Mommy Baby Shower - Locations & Activities Ideas

A pampered mommy baby shower is a perfect theme for the expecting mom that has everything she needs for the new baby. This is a great way to shower her with some much needed attention and relaxation. Your baby shower guests will love it too!

This type of baby shower can be done at home, a spa, or a salon. There are many varieties of this type of party, it just depends on what kind of pampering you want to give the expecting mommy.

When most people think of this type of baby shower they automatically think facials, massage, etc. It all depends on the expecting mommy's personal taste. Maybe she doesn't enjoy beauty treatments. She might an afternoon or evening out at one of her favorite restaurants with her all her closest friends and family members.

Here are some ideas for locations and activities:

  • Have the party at home -

    • Hire a professional massage therapist and/or makeup consultant to give everyone facials, makeovers, and massages.

    • Have a pajama party - make popcorn, watch some of the mom's favorite movies, and lots of girl talk.

  • Have the party at a spa - find a spa that offers group rates and plan a relaxing day of facials, pedicures, manicures, etc.

  • Plan a girls day or night out - go to the expecting mommy's favorite restaurant and a movie or play afterwards.

Make sure that any beauty treatments or massages you plan are safe during pregnancy.

Plan your party with relaxation and fun in mind and you won't go wrong. The new mommy will surely be thrilled to be fussed over in such a special way!

Choosing food for your couple's baby shower is the easiest and most important part of your party planning. One thing men love to do is eat!

You want to keep these men happy and content at your baby shower so make sure to choose hearty foods. You can still plan to serve lighter foods for the ladies but make sure to include plenty of meat for the guys. Also make sure to find out if any of your guests have any food sensitivities.

Here are a few baby shower food ideas that are sure to keep those men happy:

  • Appetizers & Finger Foods - Nacho dip & chips, spinach dip with crackers or crusty chunks of bread, chicken wings, finger sandwiches, deviled eggs, pigs in a blanket, Swedish meatballs.

  • Main Entrees - BBQ chicken, fried chicken, enchiladas, chili.
  • Side Dishes - potato salad, pasta salad, mac & cheese

It's best to keep your menu easy so that you will have time to mingle with the guests rather than be stuck in the kitchen. Find some more great baby shower food ideas and recipes here.

Planning a Couple's Baby Shower - Choosing Baby Shower Favors

OK ladies, so you are planning a couple’s baby shower and are perplexed about what kind of baby shower favors to give your guests. Let’s face it, baby shower favors are designed with women in mind. They are cute and feminine!

So what do you give the guys that are attending a coed baby shower? There are not too many men that are into candles or bath confetti, and they won't go gaga over those adorable baby bottles filled with candy.

Well, let’s think about what guys enjoy -

  • Food - What guy doesn’t like to eat? You know the old saying: The way to a guy’s heart is through his stomach. Cookies or candy are always a sure bet. Wrap them in a piece of tulle tied with a ribbon or an organza bag. You could also use Chinese style take-out boxes or neutral color favor boxes. Bubble gum cigars are also another good choice.

  • Sports themed key chains or t-shirts.

  • Movie rental gift certificates or lottery tickets.

If you want to give the ladies at the party something feminine, there is no reason why you can’t buy separate baby shower favors for them.

Just remember when choosing the favors for a coed baby shower to keep them neutral for the men.

Planning a Couple's Baby Shower - Baby Shower Games

When planning a couple's baby shower one of your main concerns is making it "guy-friendly". Coed baby showers tend to be more laid back like a small get-together for family and friends, unlike women-only baby showers which seems to bring out the frilly, girly side of us females.

A big question when it comes to baby shower games is whether or not you should include them at a couple's baby shower. This is totally up to you, but if you do decide to include tehn try to choose games that the expecting daddy and the other men at the party will enjoy. Men tend to like physical activities, so avoid the games that you have to figure out what's in the dirty diaper or guessing the baby food.

My husband was very involved in my pregnancy and we had a coed baby shower. He loved opening the gifts just as much as I did. As we were opening them the guys starting assembling any gifts that needed to be put together. They had a blast playing with all the cute toys and gadgets. Technically this isn't a game but the guys were having fun and that's all that matters.

Here are a few ideas that will be entertaining for everyone:

  • Guess the Guest - Prior to the baby shower, have all the guests give the hostess one of their baby pictures. Arrange them on a piece of cardboard and have the guests try to figure out who's who. The guest with the most correct answers wins.

  • Diaper Changing Olympics - This baby shower game is just like a relay race. You will need two baby dolls, diapers, wipes, and powder. Divide the guests into two equal groups. Set up a table with the supplies and put a diaper on each doll. Each guests has to run to the table, take the diaper off the baby, wipe, powder, and put a new diaper on the baby. Then they run back and give the doll to the next guest in line. The next guest does the same thing. Not only is this game a ton of fun it gives the guys some much needed practice!

  • Pin the Diaper on the Baby - This is a very competitive game that the guys are sure to love. You will need a baby doll (make sure to choose a doll the diaper will fit on), a cloth diaper, safety pins, and a blindfold. The goal of the game is to be the fasted as well as neatest to diaper the baby with a blindfold on. Have someone keep time with a stopwatch. Have the expecting mommy judge which guest did the best job.

Guy-friendly prizes can include gift certificates, lottery tickets, bubblegum cigars, chocolate or candy, candles for the women and cigars for the men.

No matter what you decide to do, just try to keep it simple and neutral (not too girly). This way everyone at the baby shower will fill comfortable and have fun.

Planning a Couple's Baby Shower - Choosing Invitations

More and more couple's are planning coed baby showers. I personally think it is a great idea to include the expecting daddy. He has every right to be included, he did help create the expected bundle of joy!

In the past men were excluded from baby showers because they can be very feminine. With a few tweaks you can turn your baby shower into a guy friendly party.

When choosing invitations for your couple's baby shower pick an invitation that is "man friendly". The idea here is to attempt to get other men to join the baby shower. If some of the expecting daddy's friends are there he will not feel out of place in a room full of women.

Here a few baby shower invitation ideas that will work for a coed shower:

  • If both parents like sports, you might want to find an invitation that is decorated with their favorite sport or sports team.

  • Western theme.

  • Transportation theme - trains, planes, & automobiles.

  • Couple's design

All of these great invitations can be found at Partyinvitations.com.

Don't forget, you should mail your invitations 2 - 3 weeks before the baby shower.
